Do you know Mariehamn? Small capital of Åland, slumbering archipelago in the midst of the Baltic sea. It's an autonomous part of Finland, with its own government and Swedish as its official language. Åland is also the smallest region of Finland by area and population.

Well, of course some of you know, maybe somebody even visited there and fell in love with its historically unique chimneys or striking nature, but who of us knows about Mariehamn's experimental music scene of the late 1980's and early 90's? Not really many we assume. Neither did we before we were approached by short and polite email if we would be interested to release this material for the first time in digital format and as part of our catalog. After a short listening we said immediate yes.

Å-tikkaat was a small, but active part of highly unknown era of Ålands small but active avant garde scene, they where part of impromptu club called "Korvar och Pruttar" that was freely organised in several different locations in Mariehamn between 1988-1993, mostly during winter times, when the city was empty of tourists and travellers.
Fuelled with nature's free drugs and bootlegged tax free booze from the huge ferry boats sailing back and forth the Helsinki-Stockholm line and stopping at nights at Mariehamn harbour, Å-tikkaat music surely reflects to the silent winter times, isolation in the small community surrounded by wild nature, frozen sea and thousand inhabited islands, the vivid darkness all around. Their music is defined by a minimalist psychedelic approach but it's also strongly unpredictable and colored with oddball humour. They performed in 2-4 member formations, whoever could make it on the current night and concerts ranged from 10min. to all night jams from noisy electric blasts to long dronish hums. They never officially released anything, except some home made cassettes, sold and passed on in concerts and happenings. Sov Gott Mariehamn is the first release of the surviving recorded material of Å-tikkaat, carrying us back some 30 years to the forgotten psychedelic Mariehamn.
